What is a .DWL file?
The most common data format on the web.
A DWL file is not a drawing. It is a small lock file that AutoCAD (or TurboCAD) creates beside a CAD drawing while it is open. It records who has the drawing open so that others cannot edit it at the same time. The actual drawing is the .dwg (AutoCAD) or .tcw (TurboCAD) file with the same name. When the drawing closes normally, the DWL is deleted automatically; if it is left behind after a crash, you can safely delete it once you confirm nobody has the drawing open.
